How the grade works
Each check has a weight. A pass earns full credit, a warning half. A page that doesn’t load, is noindexed or blocks ChatGPT’s search crawler is capped at F, because no amount of polish makes it citable. A+ is 95 and above, A 88, B+ 80, B 72, C 62, D 50.
Questions
What does “ready to rank on ChatGPT” mean?
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude can only cite pages their crawlers may fetch and can read. The checker tests crawler permissions, firewall behaviour, what the page looks like without JavaScript and how easy it is to quote.
Is the AI search readiness checker free?
Yes. Checks are free without an account, and weekly rating alerts by email are free for every signed-up user, paying or not.
Does the checker use AI?
No. Every check is a fixed rule over public responses, so the same page always gets the same score.
Does blocking GPTBot hurt my score?
No. GPTBot, ClaudeBot and CCBot collect training data. Only blocking the crawlers that fetch pages for answers (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Googlebot, Bingbot) lowers readiness.
What is llms.txt?
A markdown file at /llms.txt that tells AI assistants what a site is and links to its most important pages.
