# How to submit your site to Bing (Webmaster Tools and IndexNow)

By [Dhrumil Barot](https://indexlinks.app/about#founder), Founder

Add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools, verify it, submit a sitemap, turn on IndexNow and send individual URLs. Written against Bing’s help pages as of October 2026.

To submit your site to Bing, add it in Bing Webmaster Tools, verify ownership, submit your sitemap, and turn on IndexNow so new and changed URLs reach Bing automatically. The steps below follow Bing’s own help pages as they read in October 2026. The last section shows how IndexLinks does the IndexNow part for you.

## Key takeaways

- You must prove you own a site before Bing Webmaster Tools will show data for it.
- You can import a verified site from Google Search Console instead of verifying from scratch.
- Submit your sitemap once, and add a Sitemap line to robots.txt so Bing can find it.
- Bing strongly recommends IndexNow over manual URL submission, which is limited and manual.
- Submitting does not guarantee indexing. The page has to be crawlable and worth indexing.

## Step 1: Add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools

1. Sign in to [Bing Webmaster Tools](https://www.bing.com/webmasters).
2. Choose how to add the site. You can import it from Google Search Console, or add it manually by entering the site URL and clicking Add.
3. If you import, Bing asks permission to read your Search Console account. It lists your verified sites with their sitemaps; select the ones you want and click Import. Imported sites are verified automatically.

You can add a whole domain such as example.com, or a single branch such as example.com/clothing/. Bing allows up to 1,000 sites per account and up to 100 imported at once. Source: [Bing’s Add and Verify site help page](https://www.bing.com/webmasters/help/add-and-verify-site-12184f8b).

## Step 2: Verify that you own the site

If you added the site manually, Bing offers these verification methods. Which ones you see depends on your DNS provider.

- DNS auto verification: if your DNS provider supports Domain Connect, sign in to it when prompted and Bing adds the CNAME record for you.
- XML file: download BingSiteAuth.xml and upload it to the root directory of the site.
- Meta tag: paste the supplied meta tag into the head section of your default page, then upload the changed page.
- CNAME record: add the CNAME record Bing gives you in your DNS account.

Pick one, complete it, then confirm verification in Webmaster Tools. Once the site is added, Bing says it usually takes about 48 hours to generate analytics and data.

## Step 3: Submit your sitemap

1. Open Sitemaps in the left navigation.
2. Click Submit sitemaps and enter your sitemap URL. Bing accepts XML sitemaps, RSS 2.0, Atom feeds and plain text files with one URL per line.
3. Check the status table afterward. Click a sitemap to see its errors and warnings.

Also add a line to your robots.txt, for example Sitemap: https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml, so Bing can find the sitemap on its own. Imported Search Console sitemaps also appear in this list. If you do not have a valid sitemap yet, use our [sitemap validator](https://indexlinks.app/tools/sitemap-validator).

## Step 4: Turn on IndexNow

Bing recommends IndexNow for submitting URLs. It notifies Bing and other participating search engines when URLs are added, updated or deleted. Some platforms, including Cloudflare through Crawler Hints, and plugins for WordPress, support it without custom code. Otherwise it takes four steps, as described on [Bing’s IndexNow page](https://www.bing.com/indexnow/getstarted):

1. Generate a key. It must be 8 to 128 characters using letters, numbers and dashes. Our [IndexNow key generator](https://indexlinks.app/tools/indexnow-key-generator) makes one in your browser.
2. Host the key. Save a UTF-8 text file named after the key, such as your-key.txt, containing the key, at the root of your site.
3. Submit URLs. Send a GET request to the search engine’s IndexNow endpoint for a single URL, or a JSON POST with your host, key and urlList for up to 10,000 URLs at once.
4. Check that Bing received them. Open the IndexNow section of Bing Webmaster Tools to see submission activity.

A 200 response means the URL was received, not that it has been indexed. IndexNow shares each submission with the other participating engines, and Google is not among the engines indexnow.org lists. Details are in the [IndexNow documentation](https://www.indexnow.org/documentation) and our guide to [what IndexNow can and cannot do](https://indexlinks.app/blog/what-indexnow-can-and-cannot-do).

## Step 5: Submit individual URLs (optional)

Bing’s help page says IndexNow is strongly recommended and that manual and API submission may be deprecated in future. If you still need to send a few URLs by hand:

1. Select your verified site in Bing Webmaster Tools.
2. Go to Submit URLs.
3. Enter one URL per line and click Submit.

The limit is 10,000 URLs per domain per day, the quota resets at midnight UTC, and Bing notes that repeated manual submissions do not accelerate indexing. Source: [Bing’s URL submission help page](https://www.bing.com/webmasters/help/url-submission-62f2860b).

## If Bing still does not show the page

- Open the page in a private window. It should return 200 without a login.
- Check for a noindex tag or header with the [noindex checker](https://indexlinks.app/tools/noindex-checker).
- Check that robots.txt does not block Bingbot. The [robots.txt checker](https://indexlinks.app/tools/robots-txt-checker) shows which rule applies.
- Check the canonical points at the page itself with the [canonical URL checker](https://indexlinks.app/tools/canonical-url-checker).

## Let IndexLinks do the Bing part automatically

Everything in steps 4 and 5 repeats every time you publish. IndexLinks does it for you. Add your website, host the one IndexNow key file (on Cloudflare it can host it for you), and IndexLinks watches your sitemap and sends each new and updated page to Bing, Yandex, Naver, Seznam and Yep through IndexNow. It also sends pages to Google through your Search Console and to Baidu, and shows a verified receipt when a crawler visits. It still cannot make Bing index a weak page, but you will see exactly what was sent and when each crawler arrived. ## Frequently asked questions

### How long does it take for Bing to index a new site?

Bing does not publish a time. After you add a site, its help page says it usually takes about 48 hours for Bing Webmaster Tools to generate analytics and data. Indexing itself depends on the pages.

### Do I need Bing Webmaster Tools if I use IndexNow?

You can send IndexNow notifications without it, but Webmaster Tools is where you verify ownership, see the IndexNow submissions Bing received and find crawl problems. Bing recommends using IndexNow for submission.

### Is there a limit on manual URL submissions?

Bing’s help page says you can manually submit up to 10,000 URLs per domain per day, and the quota resets at midnight UTC. Bing also notes that repeated manual submissions do not accelerate indexing.

### Does IndexNow work for Google?

No. Google is not among the participating engines listed on indexnow.org. IndexNow covers Bing and other participating search engines such as Yandex, Naver, Seznam and Yep.

### Can I import my site from Google Search Console?

Yes. Bing Webmaster Tools can import verified sites from Google Search Console, with their sitemaps, and verifies them automatically. You grant Bing access to your Search Console account to do this.

### Why is my page submitted but not showing in Bing?

Submitting tells Bing the page exists. It does not guarantee indexing. Check that the page returns 200, is not noindex, is not blocked in robots.txt and has a self-referencing canonical.
